A few days ago I posted a Blog Update but it wasn’t too detailed. Today, while sharing my blog goals for the month of October, I will dive a bit deeper.
Alexa
The Yakezie Challenges you to drop your Alexa Ranking below 200k in 6 months. My goal was to hit that mark in 2 months and I barely achieved it, but I achieved it.
You know what they call the guy that finishes last in his class in med school?
Doctor.
It doesn’t matter how you reach your goals (ethically). Remember that.
- Alexa as of August 1 – 1,700,000
- Alexa as of September 1 – 485,000
- Alexa as of October 1 – 198,796
- Alexa Goal – 175,000
I don’t really know how manageable this goal is. I assume now that I’m below 200k I won’t see many daily drops of 5-10k. I hope to be proven wrong.
If you want to help me with Operation: Drop It Like It’s Hott, make sure your browser has the little a in the top right corner. The Alexa Ranking System only tracks those visitors with the Alexa Toolbar installed. Install it here for free.
Visitors
If it weren’t for the increased visitors from my first giveaway (Congrats to 20sFinances) I wouldn’t have reached my goal for August. I beat my goal by 1 person! Special shout out to that guy!
I’m expecting an increase in traffic as I have started to focus a bit on SEO. I was averaging a whopping zero visitors from Google. Based on the first week of October, this figure has already jumped to 11%.
Advertising
Now that I’ve dropped below 200k Alexa, I’ve been getting a few inquiries from online advertisers. I wasn’t quite prepared for it so it’s something I’m trying to deal with quickly. If you notice that the site begins to look a bit cluttered, let me know. My plan is to offer a few block ads in the right sidebar, but all advertisements will be relevant to “what my readers want.” All feedback is appreciated.
You may have noticed the big ol’ Thesis ad to the right. Its size may be a bit obnoxious but I’m extremely happy with my Thesis theme and am more than happy to promote them. For those that don’t know, I recently made the switch from Tumblr to a self-hosted WordPress platform, using the Thesis theme. The options to customize the design how you wish are hard to beat. I believe I paid $87 for the software and it’s been well worth it. If you sign up via my affiliate ad, I receive 33% commission. I’d be more than happy to pass part of this commission to you in the form of a discount.
Final Thoughts
While I consider myself to be the “Michael Jordan of Money,” I will openly admit my lack of blogging knowledge. If you have any advice related to SEO, social media, or online advertising – let me know – as I will continue to produce personal finance advice, government-bashing banters, and interesting economic insights.
