Banking used to be an incredible hassle. I hated going to the bank, waiting in line, making sure that your forms or deposit slip was filled out properly, being lectured by the teller if it wasn’t, having to deal with specific hours…the list goes on and on. However, every year there seems to be new technologies coming out that make banking much more convenient.
Here are some of those technologies and how they are making things better.
Things are Getting Paperless
I’m not an environmentalist, but I don’t like having to store a bunch of statements all the time. That is why I’m glad that more and more banks and credit unions are going to online statements. New technologies like Doxim software for credit unions are making it more cost effective for banks and credit unions to make the switch, which makes it more convenient for customers.
Along with online statements, more banks are offering online bill pay for free. This is an awesome solution to the hassle of writing checks each month for every bill. Now, most of my bills are automated, and the ones that aren’t can be paid online with a couple mouse clicks. It saves time, and it saves me money on checks and stamps.
No More Going to the Bank
You may have seen the commercials of a married couple snapping a picture of a check on their phone. Now, every month, more and more banks and credit unions are adopting the same scanning and photo technology to process deposits. Now, you don’t even need to go into the bank to deposit that check. Talk about improved convenience. I’ve done the process several times and it is very easy and reliable.
Along with the scanning of checks, many banks are now rolling out deposit ATMs, where you can stick in your pile of cash and it scans it and deposits it for you. You get a confirmation receipt, and your deposit is done. This saves you from having to go to a branch to deposit cash, which is very convenient as well.
I can’t wait to see what more technology has to offer to make banking more convenient for the customers!
