I married my beautiful wife (still getting used to this) on April 20, 2013. We took off, a few days later, on a 2-week, fairy-tale honeymoon. We visited Athens, Santorini and Crete in Greece; and we visited Istanbul, Turkey.
In case you missed it, I quickly covered our stay in Athens and shared a few pictures. While I had a wonderful time in Athens, it was not the highlight of our trip. I would have to give that award to Santorini.
What’s It Like In Santorini?
I realize that, as humans, we have a tendency to weigh recent events more than past events. Having said that, Santorini is, arguably, the best place I have ever been. The views are impeccable. The food is amazing. The architecture is breath-taking. The friendliness of the people is incomparable.
I will share a few details in words, but I’m afraid that words can’t capture the island’s full beauty; so, I will share pictures as well.
- The wine in Santorini is delicious and the alcohol content is much higher than in the U.S.
- The island is extremely small; therefore, you can see the water on both sides while standing at the top.
- We decided to walk on a 2-3 ft wide path on the side of a huge cliff for about 3 hours. Not ideal for someone that is scared of heights and/or death.
- There is an appetizer/side call FAVA. It’s made from smashed split peas and it’s soooo good. We ordered it every meal.
