How Can I Make Money Blogging?

Blogging · August 3, 2012

I don’t typically tell people about my blog. It’s something I try to keep secret when I’m out and about. In fact, most people learn the 22 Things You Didn’t Know About Me before they find out about Funancials. When people discover my blogging – it’s funny – because the responses are very predictable. I’ve had the below conversation numerous times.

Friend – “You have a blog?”

A Blinkin – “I do.”

Friend – “That’s cool.”

A Blinkin – “Yup.”

It really helps if Ben Stein is narrating. The conversation doesn’t exactly reek of excitement. UNTIL…..

Friend – “I’ve heard of people making money blogging.”

A Blinkin – “I make money blogging.”

Friend – (suddenly surprised) “Wait, what?”

A Blinkin – “It’s true. I get paid to type.”

Friend – “SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! TELL ME MORE! TELL ME MORE!“

I will tell you more. I’ll tell you a lot more.

This will be the first of several posts focused on The Business of Blogging. I’ve received too many inquiries recently to ignore. I make money blogging because bloggers before me gave out their secrets. Now I will do the same. Consider this “Pay It Forward,” minus the kid from The Sixth Sense.

How Much Money Can I Expect To Make?

That is entirely up to you. What you get out of it is directly proportional to what you put into it. I know that’s true for anything so allow me to give you a better idea.

Look at my December Blog Earnings Report. That’s a mortgage payment!

Is that still not enough motivation to start your own blog?

Check out Crystal…

Crystal is one of my blogging buddies. I use the word “buddy” because it sounds innocent. Nothing is creepier than having an “online friend” and I’m aware of this. But hold your judgement. Crystal runs my advertising.

She also recently wrote a book (named after her site) titled How I Make Money Blogging. I will do a formal book review in a few days but I can already tell you – it’s fantastic. If you follow her directions, you will without a doubt have a money-making-blog by the time you finish reading (assuming it takes you 6 months to read).

Crystal was kind enough to give me a free copy of the book. I’ll be hosting a giveaway in just a few days. If I were you, I would want to get a glimpse of this print.

Here’s why-

About a year ago, Crystal was making $35,000/year in a cubicle. She quit so that she could focus on blogging. Crazy, right?

Now she makes $6,000 – $23,000/month. Blogging.

Stay tuned.

Important Disclosure

I'm a big believer in transparency. As such, you should know that I make money from this blog. Weird, I know. The way I make money is simple: I occasionally link to products and companies that I believe provide tremendous value. If you choose to sign up, I may receive a small payout. This payout comes at no additional cost to you and, trust me, it's small. I'm in no position to quit my day job. Please do not spend any money on these products unless you feel you need them or that they will help you achieve your goals.
