I don’t think you should ever get into blogging for the money. The main focus should always be providing sound advice and quality content. If you can do each of these with an entertaining flair then you will slowly gain a faithful following.
Having said that, making money is so much fun so let’s see how we did in February.
Earnings
January was an extremely busy month at work which resulted in a slow month for blogging income. Though I have rebounded in February, I haven’t yet matched the success seen in my December Blog Earnings Report. I have placed in-content links in a few February articles and I have continued staff writing at Prairie EcoThrifter and My University Money.
- February Blog Earnings: $640
I have a few ideas to increase this number moving forward, but it will take several months for these ideas to come to fruition.
Visitors
While I’m a tad disappointed with the earnings thus far in 2012, I couldn’t be more ecstatic about my visitors. Funancials saw an increase of about 40% from December to January and another 20% increase from January to February. Over the past 3 months, both my visitors and pageviews have nearly doubled. I’m extremely excited to say the least.
- 42.29% Search Traffic
- 37.10% Referral Traffic
- 16.54% Direct Traffic
- 4.06% Campaigns
A big reason for this has been improved SEO and a few articles in particular. Both How Does Facebook Make Money? and Democrats Are Richer Than Republicans have received quite a bit of traffic. This is due to the election (specifically Romney’s taxes being an issue) and Facebook announcing their IPO. A big thanks to Zuck and Mitt for sending a stream of surfers my way.
Alexa
My Alexa ranking was hovering around 125,000 for a few months but has since dropped to 110,000. Although my pagerank of 4 has more weight than my Alexa ranking, I have made it a personal goal of mine to fall below 100,000. This is the level that I believe a blog can stop and say “I must be doing something right.”
If you’re unfamiliar, Alexa measures a websites traffic. The lower the Alexa, the better. It’s measured like golf and just as unfair. You see, Alexa only tracks your visit if you have the Alexa toolbar installed. So download it here and help a brother out.
As Funancials continues to grow, I will continue to thank you.
Always evolve. Always improve.
