People inherently love deals and to save money; nothing feels as good as getting a bargain. The thing that makes me laugh is how people think “they’re saving” every time they spend money. My approach to spending is only to buy what I need or want. I don’t let SALES affect what I’ve sought out to do. If I buy a pair of shoes, I’m not going to buy the pair of socks you’re offering me for half off. I didn’t come to the store for socks, just shoes. Even if the add-on (the sock) is selling for less than I would value it at, I’m not biting (unless the associate is really cute and I want to flaunt my fat wallet).
Because of my approach to spending, I rarely get excited about TENT EVENTS, RED DOT SALES, or in the case of this weekend: TAX-FREE BACK 2 SCHOOL SALE! If you’re in one of the 18 participating states it really does sound fun, but it’s not all that worth it to me.
To put into numbers, let’s say your tax rate is 8%. A $60 purchase is going to save you $4.80. Does $4.80 sound like a reason to mess with the mob of moms? I don’t think so…
If you’re not a numbers guy, let me put it into perspective for you.
This weekend is also Adrianne Curry’s birthday, she’s turning 29. When I think of Adrianne Curry I, at first, think “what a bomb-shell.” She’s smoking hot, right? Heck yea! And she even uploads quasi-clothed uber-nerdy Twit Pics, what’s not to like?
To begin, she shouldn’t really be famous. She won a reality TV program starring some of the dumbest contestants (America’s Next Top Model). She topped that by being on the most annoying TV show (The Surreal Life). And lastly, she married Peter Brady, who wasn’t even Top 3 Most Attractive Guys in the Show (he’s 4th behind Mike, Greg, Bobby, and Alice).
So before you sprint to the store this weekend, think of my girl Adrianne. She might seem great in your head, but when you see her bio next to her body she loses some of the sparkle.
