Hunting for Treasure at Home

Uncategorized · July 23, 2014

While you might think of your home simply as somewhere you and your family live and go about your daily lives, you might not have seriously considered that as well as being that already mentioned, it’s also somewhere where you keep all of your most treasured belongings. Ultimately, this means that as the years turn into decades, your family home will likely turn into a treasure trove of forgotten possessions. And if you can dig them out a few of them at least could be suitable for selling. Here’re just a few suggestions.
Art
You might not realize it, but that old, dusty painting of a featureless countryside landscape in your attic might actually be worth a pretty penny. Bring it down from your dark loft, re-frame it and get it valuated. You might find that your old oil painting that didn’t look so great in your contemporary flat brings is pretty valuable.
Video Games
People of an older persuasion might not believe it, but some video games are worth a lot of money. Early games for the Commodore 64, Sega Genesis, Nintendo Entertainment System and Atari 2600 are rare and the software they run has been discontinued. This makes the games that are in people’s homes relatively valuable. If you own any, dig them out and see what they’re selling for on eBay and Gumtree – you never know.
Jewelry
By its very nature, jewelry is expensive. If it’s looked after carefully, age can actually add value to your collection, as opposed to take it away, as it does with something like a car. Of course, some jewelry is sentimental, but if you take what you’re not attached to to somewhere like H&T Pawnbrokers, you could be shocked by your jewelry’s’ value.
Comics
If you collect comics or you read them when you were younger, it’s likely that they have extreme sentimental value, but if you can bare to tear yourself away from them – and if you’ve looked after them carefully – they could make you a small fortune on eBay, if you find the right buyer.
Wine
If you’ve not already consumed it all, wine is commonly bought (generally in bulk) at auction. This means that it must have some sort of inherent value. Therefore, if you have some old dusty bottles sat in the corner of your cellar/garage, bring them out into the light and examine their value.
Hopefully you can see that there’s likely to be plenty of goods in your home that are worth something. So dig them out, clean them up, and do some research. You could be sat on a small fortune.
