I wake up each morning with congested nasal cavities and foggy vision. The grogginess usually subsides when my squinting reveals Matt Lauer in a slim-cut suit. Although adorable, he has nothing on a cold, cuddly Miss Blinkin.
The Today Show consistently gives me random facts and feel good stories perfect for “water-cooler” talks at work (do offices still have water-coolers?). But over the last few days, the Today Show has introduced a new, more-serious segment.
It’s an extremely important topic (obviously?) but I’m not sure EVERYONE should be talking about it. The first two segments highlighted:
- A family with zero savings
- A recent college-grad unhappy with her job prospects
I understand, completely, what the show is TRYING to do. Perhaps they should have performed better background screening?
I have spoken to MANY people that are seriously struggling. An adverse event or corporate downsizing has turned an All-American family into an empty-handed household.
And to those people, I am truly sorry. There’s little planning you could have done to protect yourselves.
However, the family (in part 1) and girl (in part 2) probably could have seen these struggles coming; therefore, I really don’t feel that bad for them.
Have you watched the video segments yet?
- Part 1-
A husband and wife living off of one mechanic’s income decide to adopt 4 children. They have (what appears to be) an extremely nice house with an extremely nice pool in the backyard. It also shows snapshots of extravagant vacations they were fortunate to take.
Something doesn’t add up here…adoption (in itself) is extremely expensive and then raising a family of 6 on one mechanic’s income WHILE ALSO indulging in various luxuries….unsustainable.
- Part 2-
A girl majors in French and then is upset that she can’t find work in her field of study. Ummm…You majored in French. And you’re surprised you can’t find a job focused on…French?
I hope I don’t appear as heartless as Kanye in my above ranting. Maybe you all can talk some sympathy into me.
