Don’t worry, everyone. It will all be over soon.
At the ripe age of 26, I’ve only been able to witness (less than) a handfull of elections. Because of this, I’m not sure if this Presidential Election has been especially different -OR- if all elections are this horrible?
I love this Youtube Video featuring a young girl crying about the election.
Pretty soon, propaganda will be replaced with ‘pa rum pum pum pum’ and all will be merry.
But before this infuriating political season comes to a close, I would like to voice a few thoughts.
Everyone Is Right, Even The Left
I came into this election with a completely open mind. I have swayed back and forth between candidates multiple times. I have researched the viewpoints from BOTH SIDES and I understand WHY both sides feel the way they do.
Both sides have good reason.
The most frustrating thing I’ve witnessed is that VERY FEW people have an open mind. After reading the thoughts of many, everyone GENUINELY believes that their views are 100% right and “the other side” is taking crazy pills. I say that it’s frustrating, but in all actuality, I find it amusing. This leads me to observation #1:
There are complete morons from both political parties.
If you cannot understand WHY someone would vote for the opposing candidate, you need to check into an insane asylum because you are crazy.
My hope is that these voters cancel each other out.
Moving right along to observation #2…
Defense Wins Championships
I know we’ve all heard the saying “Defense Wins Championships” and I think it definitely applies to this election. Both campaigns spent A LOT of time “pointing fingers” and saying “you did this!” or “you did that!” But neither candidate, in my opinion, did a good job of defending themselves.
One Example (too many to choose from):
President Obama spent a lot of time on Mitt Romney’s 14% Tax Rate which (for some reason) caused an emotional uprising. I thought this could’ve been easily defended.
- “Mr. President, I paid roughly $2,000,000 in taxes. That’s about $2 million more than the average American paid in taxes.”
- “Mr. President, my effective tax rate would’ve been higher had I not donated $4,000,000 to charity. Should I given this money to our government instead?”
- “Mr. President, most of my income was from dividends. In case you’re not aware, this money is already taxed 35% at the corporate level AND then taxed 15% at the personal level. Do you think a 50% tax will inspire growth in business?”
Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are Twins
I began researching prior Presidencies because I wanted to make an informed decision. Instead of researching the men, I focused on the parties. And what I found was surprising.
There is very little difference between a Republican-run America and a Democratic-run America.
There are absolutely differences (don’t get me wrong) but they are minor.
I think the deep-rooted beliefs in Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are different; however, 4 years under Mitt Romney and 4 more years under Barack Obama would look eerily similar. Minor tweaks, yes, but drastic changes, no.
This is why…
I Voted For Gary Johnson
If you’re wondering why, I will gladly fill up your inbox with my reasons. But, let’s be honest, we’re all sick of everyone else’s beliefs.
So I’ll leave you with this well-written excerpt from The Rolling Stones:
“What makes us feel pessimistic about the world, ultimately, is the way the media encourage us to believe that our fate hangs on the every move of the promise-breaking, terminally disappointing Teflon liars in Washington.”
